Chinese Figure Skaters Face Investigation Following Holding Prop Weapon during Competition

ISU officials have launched an investigation following a pair of Chinese ice dancers were seen holding an object resembling a replica weapon during a grand prix figure skating event.

Television footage showed the skaters sitting alongside a sizable prop in the form of a rocket marked “DF-61” as they awaited their scores in the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.

This model represents a recently introduced Chinese-made ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons, which was displayed at a military parade recently.

Officials is aware that an inappropriate soft toy seems to have been among those thrown on to the rink by audience members following a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU commented via a release.

“The soft toy was then handled by the athletes who had just performed. The ISU regrets the incident and will look into it more deeply.”

Ren and Xing placed eighth out of ten teams during the ice dancing competition, which was won by Madison Chock and Evan Bates from the US.
