Heroic Rail Staff Member Suffers Critical Wounds Amid Multiple Knife Attack on Express Train

A courageous railway employee who stepped in to save travelers during a mass knife incident on a high-speed train has suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities stated on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

CCTV video reportedly shows the employee trying to stop the assailant as the train traveled between a city and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Police declared a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Reaction and Aftermath

The incident on the weekend resulted in 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from hospital.

A bystander recorded the suspect brandishing a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the courageous employee of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a senior police officer.

Labor Response and Appeals for Measures

Train unions were swift to praise staff and call for more measures. A labor leader said he would be “seeking immediate discussions with government, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the strongest possible support, resources and robust protocols in place”.

Another association leader encouraged the train operator and authorities “to move swiftly to examine security, to support the affected employees, and to make sure nothing like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Action

The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not stop the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” stated a union representative.

Further Information

Police stated they received the initial emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness described initially wondering if the event was a Halloween joke, but quickly understood from people's faces that it was real.

Police have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terror-related incident and have requested the public to come forward with any additional details.

Rail operations on the impacted line are expected to have delays until the following day, with travelers advised to postpone their travel where possible.

Anyone with details that could help the inquiry are asked to contact police by texting a specific number with a case code.
